What KA-BAR does the military use? ›

After the U.S. Navy became disenchanted with blade failures on the USN Mark 1 utility knife, the latter service adopted the Ka-Bar as the US Navy Utility Knife, Mark 2. The Marine Corps in turn re-designated the Ka-Bar as either the USMC Mark 2 Combat Knife, or simply the Knife, Fighting Utility.

Years after World War II, many KA-BAR knives were unofficially reactivated in the Korean, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and Iraqi Freedom conflicts. Today, the original USMC Fighting and Utility Knife remains the first choice for many men and women of service who carry it as their personal knife option.

The Ka-Bar USMC fighting knife is a legendary blade that was first designed to serve US troops during World War II. Now, more than 50 years later it still offers the same high-quality design you can depend on. It boasts a 1095 carbon steel blade that is epoxy powder coated and a stacked leather handle.

Our name dates back to the early 1900's from a fur trapper testimonial. He wrote that while trapping, his gun jammed leaving him with only his knife to kill a wounded bear that was attacking him. He thanked us for making the quality knife that helped him to kill a bear, but all that was legible was “K a bar”.

Over the years, and through many conflicts, the Kabar has proven an indispensable weapon in moments of extreme desperation, at times as essential to a soldier's survival as his rifle or compass.

A steel doesn't get much easier to sharpen than that. Kabar advertises that they come with a 40 degree edge and in my experience that is pretty close but they can get more obtuse towards the tip in many cases. Your Delica likely came at around 30 degrees.
