Following Hogwarts Legacy's June 6th update, the Haunted Hogsmeade Shop quest that was previously exclusive to PlayStation has now made its way to other platforms. This spooky side quest is one of the game's best, featuring a horror-filled side story and a battle against a mischievous poltergeist. In return for passing through this gauntlet of terrors, players can open their own business in Hogsmeade.

To unlock the quest, which is named Minding Your Own Business, players need to have completed Charles Rookwood's Trial and the Fire and Vice quests. Both quests arrive late in the story, so new players won't be able to find the side quest immediately. Once these quests are complete, a new quest marker will appear in Hogsmeade, allowing players to speak with Penny the house-elf outside a vacant shop.

The player can embark on a variety of adventures during their time in Hogwarts Legacy, but the best side quests offer the most memorable experiences.

How To Start The Minding Your Own Business (Haunted Hogsmeade Shop) Quest In Hogwarts Legacy

Penny will ask if you are interested in running a shop. If you express your interest, Penny will suggest you speak to Cassandra Mason. Cassandra will offer to sell the vacant shop for 1,500 Gold.

Hogsmeade is filled with collectibles, including Field Guide Pages and a few hidden Demiguise statues, one of which can be found very close to Cassandra's home.

This is a substantial amount of Gold, but there are many great ways to make money in Hogwarts Legacy, including by selling unused gear items and capturing and selling fantastic beasts. The most efficient way to earn money is to open any Eyeball Chests that can be found in Hogsmeade, as these provide 500 Gold each.

Once the shop has been purchased, Cassandra will ask that some of her late husband's personal items be returned to her. To progress the quest, speak with Penny and then start cleaning up the shop using Reparo. Once the shop has been tidied up, Penny will hand over a key for a chest in the back room. Inside is a ladder that leads underground.

Once you climb down, the ladder will disappear, leaving you trapped.

In the next room, you will find a jack-in-the-box on top of some crates. Approaching it will transport you to a different location, where you can find the jack-in-the-box again. This will transport you to another area; follow the path until you reach an area with floating furniture.

To progress forward, use Accio to grab the lantern floating in front of one of the portraits on the right.

Carry it over to the hand hook to open the doors and then continue down the long hallway that appears. Eventually, you will need to cast Lumos again to dispel the darkness and open the doors.

After this, you will have your first encounter with Fastidio, the mischievous poltergeist who inhabits the labyrinth. Fastidio will offer to help your new business succeed, but insists that you explore more of the labyrinth. At this stage, you have two options: the library on the left or the atrium on the right.

Directly ahead of the library entrance, you will find a door that only opens once lanterns have been placed on the nearby hand hooks.

Head down the left path and the walls will start to rotate as you walk. Keep going until you reach a balcony, and then turn back the way you came.

Hogwarts Legacy: Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Guide (8)

A new staircase will appear on the right. By following the path, you will reach the upside-down room you saw earlier from the balcony. Go up the stairs and grab the lantern on the right using Accio.

Hogwarts Legacy: Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Guide (9)

Head through the open door and place the lantern on the hand hook. The room will change so everything is the right way up; however the way back will be blocked. Go left and climb the boxes to reach a window that will let you drop down into the room below, and head back up the staircase.

Grab the lantern floating above the table and take it to the closed doors you saw earlier.

Follow the path on the right and you will eventually arrive in a room with three doors. Head through any door and continue forward into a cellar. Fastidio will tease you with an escape ladder, but the floor will crumble away, dropping you back in the same room.

Hogwarts Legacy: Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Guide (14)

Choose one of the two remaining doors to find yourself in a looping corridor maze. After a while, Fastidio will mock you for running in circles and suggests you re-trace your steps. Head back the other way to find an open door. Continue forward into the darkness until a giant spider jumps down and knocks you over. Use Lumos and turn around again to catch a glimpse of some menacing mannequins. You can continue forward, but the area you are in will rapidly shrink.

Hogwarts Legacy: Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Guide (15)

Recast Lumos to find yourself surrounded by mannequins. Destroy or ignore them, and then head forward to find the last remaining door. Behind it is a room with a jack-in-the-box which can be interacted with.

Hogwarts Legacy: Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Guide (16)

This places you in a dark area with mannequins that come to life and attack you. If you have managed to master Hogwarts Legacy's combat, you shouldn't have any trouble defeating them all to continue.

Hogwarts Legacy: Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Guide (17)

Grab the second lantern to open the door, and face Fastidio again. Fastidio cannot be attacked in this stage so deflect or dodge his attacks until he gives in, then return to the foyer to complete the library section.

Head through the other open door and into the atrium, where you'll find another locked door that requires more lanterns.

Follow the path to the left and continue through a room with more mannequins. Eventually, you will reach a dead end with a single mannequin, but when you turn around, you will find more of them. Destroy them all with Bombarda and a doorway blocked by boards will appear.

Head through to find a strange room with lots of doors, grab the lantern on the left, and place it on the hand hook. Cross the bridge that appears and enter the next room.

On the left, you will find a door blocked by boards. Destroy them and enter the next room, where a second lantern can be obtained from behind another boarded-up door.

Place the lantern on the hand hook near you, then grab the first lantern from across the gap. Hang the first lantern on the hand hook across the gap.

Wingardium Leviosa won't have enough range. Instead, you will need to carry the lantern, walk back into the previous room and continue to the left to find the next platform.

Hogwarts Legacy: Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Guide (23)

In the next room, you will be locked in a room for another fight with some mannequins. Defeat them all and head through the door that opens. After the room changes some more, you will be able to spot a door on the left which contains a chest with some random loot. Turn around and head back to find the first lantern.

Next, head down the right path and into another room. Head forward, grab the lantern on the left and place it on the hand hook next to the fireplace. A new area will open up.

The easiest path across the room starts on the left as shown above.

Hogwarts Legacy: Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Guide (27)

Continue forward until you arrive on the other side of the room with the fireplace. Grab the lantern and place it on the hand hook on your side to reveal a path back to the main area. In the next room, you will find the second lantern needed to open the main door.

Beyond the door, you will encounter Fastidio again. The objective here is simply to survive as Fastidio hurls furniture at you and summons mannequins to attack you. Afterward, head back to the foyer and through the main door to face Fastidio.

How To Beat Fastidio The Poltergeist In The Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Quest

Fastidio will offer a contract in which he occasionally gains access to the shop, triggering a boss battle. In the first phase, Fastidio will launch objects at you; destroy them with Basic Cast.

In the second phase, Fastidio will gather debris to create Fastidio's Monster. Dodge the Monster when it charges and avoid its ground slam ability. Mastering the game's best spell combos will give you an edge and allow you to defeat the Monster. Fastidio will also start to summon mannequins.

In the third phase, Fastidio will flip the screen upside down. This can be disorienting, but your tactics when attacking the Monster remain the same. Once Fastidio's Monster has been defeated, speak with Fastidio to set a new contract that limits his mischievous tendencies and reduces the nuisance he causes.

How To Beat Cassandra Mason And Complete Hogwarts Legacy's Haunted Hogsmeade Shop Quest

Once you are back in Hogsmeade, speak to Officer Singer. She will suggest confronting Cassandra at her home, and you can track her down for a final boss battle.

Initially, Cassandra will cast Confringo at you, which can be blocked with Protego and Stupefy. Make good use of any openings in between her combos to chip away at her health bar.

Once her health is low, Cassandra will change tactics and shield herself with a spell while throwing pumpkins and rocks at you. Dodge the pumpkins, use Protego to stop the rocks, and then use Ancient Magic Throw, one of the game's best spells, to throw her rocks back at her. Cassandra will occasionally teleport elsewhere and cast a new shield.

In the final phase, Cassandra will start using Confringo while shielding herself. Break her shield and then attack until her health bar is fully depleted. Once Cassandra is defeated, Officer Singer will arrest her and ask that you give Penny the good news.

When speaking to Penny, you will need to decide whether to give her the Elf-Sized Hat from earlier to free her. She will continue to work at your shop regardless, so freeing her is arguably the best option. You can also choose to name your shop, with the following choices available:

  • Vesters and Venum
  • Cladwell and Brewster
  • Stitches and Draughts

Regardless of your choice, you will unlock the Shopkeeper's Outfit cosmetics and gain access to your very own shop. You gain 10% extra Gold on items sold at your shop, making it the best place to sell any of your items in Hogwarts Legacy.
